Child Protection

We believe children have a fundamental right to be protected from harm and they can not develop unless they feel secure. We also believe that we have the right to personal support and guidance concerning the protection of our children. We aim to provide an environment which; Children feel secure and happy, their views and opinions are valued and children are encouraged to talk and know they are listened to. We have a statutory responsibility to ensure that the welfare and safety of children is paramount at all times. All staff are kept up to date in Child Protection and all undergo training. Each setting has a named person that will be responsible for implementing our child protection policy.

Inclusion Policy

We will ensure that all activities within the settings are accessible to all and that all parents are consulted about any concerns regarding their child, their permission will always be obtained if a referral is made to our inclusion team at Sure Start Northumberland. Our parents are encouraged to take an active part in the care and learning, their views are always valued. Confidentiality plays a big part in our provision and it is always respected. As per the Equality Act 2010, Little Badgers Child Care will not treat a disabled child ‘less favourably’ than someone else for a reason related to their disability. Each setting has a named person that will be responsible for implementing our Inclusion policy.

Equal Opportunities

Little Badgers Child Care is committed to equal treatment and equal opportunities for all to enable children to reach their full potential. We will not discriminate against any child or adult against: sex, race, religion, colour, creed, marital status, ethnic or national origin, disability and political belief. We often incorporate cultural festivals and celebrations into our topics.

Parental Involvement

Little Badgers Child Care operates an open access policy. All records about your child can be made available to you at any time. We recognise that our parents are the primary carer, they know their child best and we will always respect their views and opinions. We will work in partnership with you to provide a consistency in care. We aim to have a parent representative in each setting to work alongside us and our other families.

Health and Safety

We fully accept our responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Acts 1974 and 2010. We believe the risks to the children in our child care environments is low but to maintain the maximum protection we comply with all Health and Safety Standards including; Fire Safety training and drill checks, Regular Emergency First Aid training and first Aid box checks, the control of infectious diseases, good overall hygiene particularly in nappy changing and in the preparation of food and weekly risk assessments and daily checks.

Behaviour Management

At Little Badgers Child Care we believe that children flourish best when their personal, social and emotional needs are met, with clear and developmentally appropriate expectations for individual behaviour as well as a whole group. Our aim is to teach children to behave in socially acceptable ways, and to understand the needs and rights of others. We aim to set boundaries in ways that help children develop a sense of the significance of their own behaviour, both in their environment and those around them. Staff encourage positive behaviour and will work with parents to develop consistent strategies to promote positive behaviour. Each setting has a named person that will be responsible for implementing our behaviour management policy.
